Manchester United vs Chelsea 2-1 | Match Review | Premier League
Manchester United vs Chelsea was expected to be a tactical battle between Mourinho and Conte. It proved so.Manchester United defeated Chelsea 2-1 in the premier league. Goals from Lukaku and Lingard gave the home side a big victory against Chelsea. Manchester United climb back to the 2nd place in the league, 2 ahead of Liverpool and 6 ahead of Chelsea. An excellent result for Manchester United and their hopes of a top 4 finish, while worrying signs for Chelsea and next years champions league.

Here are some of the talking points from Manchester United vs Chelsea

5) Jesse Lingard at it again

Just an year back, people were flipping about the idea that Lingard was get 100,000 a week. No one could have expected the kind of impact he had this season. He has been a catalyst for Manchester United this season. Coming of the bench in play of Martial to score the winner for united. He bring with him a high tempo to the game, that looks to change United's players mood. He pressed extremely high and was brilliant at it. His first moment in the match was his high pressing and taking the ball off Chelsea players. Lingard might not be a top top player, but he will do whatever he can for Manchester United. Messi Lingard's decider against Chelsea might just be crucial for United finishing in top 4 this season.

4) José Mourinho and Antonio Conte remain civil

All the fuss about this match was the banter between Conte and Mourinho in press conferences. The fact that they didn't say anything bad about each other during the press conference was a good start. They shaked hands before and after the match and were even talking and smiling during the match. This was highly unlikely behaviour from Jose. It is good tho since coming to Manchester he has been very ciliv and have given a little jib to managers and players.
Antonio, has never shown anger during his managerial career but had not held back against Mourinho. The fact that both the managers remained civil, helped the match as during the game the whole focus was on the match rather than the two managers.

3) A game of two halfs

Manchester United vs Chelsea was not a tactical masterclass. It was a game of two halfs. The first one belonging to Chelsea, while United had the second half in their hands. United started off the match on a back foot and were not looking like a home side. They played Alexis a lot central, while Lukaku was seen a few time in the right wing. During the first half United looked liked playing a lot on the left and leaving the right side open. Willian continued his good form and scored the first goal of the match. United responded just before half time and got a goal back from Lukaku.
The second half was totally different. United came on and looked like having an intent to score and win the match. Pogba grew into the game and Lukaku troubled the Chelsea defence. An inspiring substitution of Lingard from Mourinho proved to be the key , as united won the game from his goal. While Chelsea, looked like being happy with a draw. The substitution of Pedro at the 70th minute in place of Hazard at 1-1 was shocking. While Conte looked to substitute Giroud in place of Morata. He only changed it and played them both when Chelsea went 2-1 down in the match.
This match all in all was a typical example of a game of two halfs.

   2) 4-3-3 is what United needs

Finally Mourinho played the long away 4-3-3. The end result, united won the match. Pogba, got a start in the match and grew every well into the match. By the end of the game Pogba, gained confidence and made excellent runs. The moment Hazard got substituted, Pogba moved more forward and caused Chelsea problem.
While Pogba looked good, Matic was excellent. He has been performing average at best this season, but this match he nullified the Chelsea midfield many times. He definitely had a point to prove to Chelsea and he did. He was someone Chelsea have not yet replaced and is one of the reason, why they are not playing consistently.
The 3rd man of the midfield was 21 years old Scott McTominay. He might just be blessing in disguise for Mourinho. He was given the similar role as Herrera got last season, and that was to mark Hazard out of the game. He worked so well with Matic in dealing with Hazard, that he had not a big impact in the game. A truly brilliant performance for a young player, who has recently become a first team regular at United.
While in attack Lukaku , Martial and Sanchez are developing a chemistry and United will hope those three sync soon as they look like a dangerous trio against any team.

1) Romelu Lukaku finally silences his critics

The biggest criticism of Lukaku has been, that he does not leave a mark in big games. In this match however he was the difference. The big man dominated the game with his physicality. He was rewarded with a goal and a match winning assist. The showed his desire and what he can do to a defence. A particular moment stands out when he nearly scored a goal from a scissors kick. The fact that the midfield decided to give ball straight to him rather than left or right was a big help. This was one of the reasons for the second goal. McTominay gave the ball straight to him, when he pointed to him and then he with his pace and physics got a cross in for Lingard to score. People will still try to criticize when. He just need to give more of these kinds of performances against top teams to shut the critics up.

At the end this Manchester United Vs Chelsea, match might be the reasons why United goes to Champions League next season and why Chelsea won't.
